World Bird Festival, the largest celebration of birds, is celebrated the whole month of October, and this year’s observance encompasses hundreds of exciting bird watching and bird related cultural events all over the world.

With a theme of “Birds…Connecting People With Nature,” the festivity aims to bring people closer to the wonders of nature.

Thus, past events included guided nature walks, together with indoor meetings, lectures, seminars and film showing relating the wonders of birds with art performances, exhibits, and various children’s events such as face painting and bird costume making.

“Birds connect people with nature. They inspire people of all ages, religions, and ethnic groups – often through their beauty, their songs and sounds, their behavior, and their links with people,” shared Michael Szabo, organizer of World Bird Festival 2001.

The first World Bird Festival in 2001 assembled around 300,000 people to more than 1,450 events in 88 countries including the Philippines.

The 6th World Birdwatch, one of the most important featured activities during the event, promotes the appreciation of nature through birding.

Since the first World Birdwatch I 1993, more than 750,000 people have participated worldwide and recorded 10,000 species of birds.

In 1997, a total of 184,376 people participated in this affair where some 5,935 species of birds were sighted which was certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest birding event in the world.
