Products manufactured and produced by agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) may soon find their way into international markets.

Matching their products with the right markets is key in helping them, according to Land Reform Secretary Rene Villa, expressing his goal of helping ARBs find international markets for their products.

“Market matching is what it’s all about,” said Villa, as he endorsed the Agraryo Trade Fair (ATF) slated on June 8-12, 2005 at the Megatrade Hall in SM Megamall. “You will expose the products of Agrarian Reform Communities (ARCs) to prospective buyers, both exporters and importers.”
The ATF is a five-day event that showcases hundreds of food, and non-food products manufactured by ARBs and ARCs.

One of the trade fair’s highlights includes teaching the ARCs marketing techniques. The Department of Land Reform, together with its corporate arm, the National Agribusiness Corporation (NABCOR), will share with them their “knowledge of new markets and the dynamics of marketing.”

“Remember that these are farmers who have very limited funding. First of all, they probably cannot go into mass production without our support. Secondly, they do not know the market; they do not understand how to export. Remember that the documentation for exporting from this country may not necessarily be user friendly. Toy have to sign so many papers. We can help them there,” Villa explained.

“This is an attempt to break into the international market in the hope that somebody out there might just like our product,” he explained.

Villa added, “The AFT is an attempt to add value to the products of the ARCs. It is maximizing value for the farmers.”

“And if the farmers themselves attend the trade fair, they will see what else they can do with their products. You open up an extirely new world for the farmers, and that is, packaging and value addition.”

Thus, a series of seminars are scheduled for the duration of the Agraryo Trade Fair (687-2498), Topics include “An Overview on the Basics of Exporting” to the given by Felixberto Bombase, Executive Director of the Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC). Likewise, farmer-attendees will be oriented on possible materials available for product packaging, while the Bureau of Food and Drugs will have a one hour and a half briefing on the BFAD Permit Requirements. ARBs will also be trained on product Bar Coding and Product Merchandising.

For the general public, lectures on the potentials of ducks and goat possible ventures will also be given .
